TROOP TRIBUNE

OCTOBER 2004

Scoutmaster Corner:

Greetings to all Scouts and Families:

It’s been a while since I’ve wrote an article in the newsletter. Too much happening in my life and the troop I guess.
What I am very glad to report however, is that our troop has increases in new leadership which has opened the troop up to new activities never done for some time. We had a long term backpack lead by Jim Pasternak this past summer. It was very successful and I look forward to continued success next year.
New leaders, Dave Hanson and Robert Hutchinson lead our troop in a fishing trip and a “Ham Radio” campout. These are new and interesting activities to our troop. Scout, David B, lead the Troop on a bike outing last month along the beach trail.

Next month, Dave Hanson will be leading the troop on an outing to Point Magu Naval Base. This is going to be very exciting and interesting. I encourage all Scouts to participate in this. As you can see, lots of different activities with new leadership. Of course, we have had great outings lead by our “Old Leaders” as well.
The month of October is full of interesting activities. We had a very successful eagle project run by Marc Crane and we will be having an Eagle Court of Honor for Blake Straus. This year, Troop 464 will have SEVEN     eagles. This exceeds the average   when you consider the number of        boys who will turn 18 this year. I figure over eighty-percent of the boys leaving, have become eagles. Unbelievable, but that’s Troop 464.
The coming months will continue to have more events. I encourage the present and new leaders to get involved and work with the Scouts to come up with new and unique outings.

That’s it for now…see everyone at the meetings and outings.

Troop 464 Website
In case you haven't heard - our troop has a website.  The address of the site is www.troop464.com (not .ORG as some have asked-that was our old address).  I am always looking for additional pictures to put in our gallery so if you have any from previous outings please let me know. CD's work great as do emails. In addition, all Patrol Leaders (as well as our SPL & ASPL's) are asked to write a little something about the Troop or their patrol for our "Patrols" page.  Suggestions are welcome. Feel free to leave feedback on our guestbook.

Summer Camps 2005
The boys asked for it so we got it for them - 2 summer camps next year!  Camp Whitsett (6/26-7/02) & Camp Emerald Bay (8/21-8/27).  The date for Emerald Bay is the only one that was open.  Please see me as soon as possible to get your name on either/both lists. No money is due until January 2005 but we need to get an idea on the number of interested boys. There are a limited number of spots this year (we lost money on summer camp this past summer due to cancellations).

Popcorn:
All popcorn orders must be turned in to me by this coming Saturday, October 23rd (Wednesday night the 20th would be better). I will also accept any money that you have collected. Please contact me with any question.s 818-932-9001
Special thank you to the following who helped out with the Las Colinas popcorn pickup this year: Daniel, Mike, James, Nick, and Riley. They assisted with the loading of popcorn into the cars/trucks/vans. Any of the boys left had a choice of where they wished to go to lunch, so Nick, Riley & Mike chose… Chuck E Cheese. We all had a great time and it was a nice way to finish off the day.

Cub/Parent Weekend
Thanks to Nick, Evan, Kyle, & Mark Myers for coming out to assist the latest Cub/Parent weekend. The rain held off until Saturday evening fortunately so we were able to have a full day of events. I will be looking for additional volunteers for the next outing which will be the first weekend in November. (There are special items to be worked on while there so first to sign up does not necessarily mean you are “in”.)

Advancement Round Robin
Thanks again to all who helped out with our Advancement Round Robin at last weeks meeting. I have said it before but it warrants repeating: I could not get these meetings off the ground without the enormous support of both the Scouts & adults with the Troop.

Marc Crane:
Thanks a lot to everybody for coming to my Eagle project.
