TROOP TRIBUNE

DECEMBER 2004

Scoutmasters Corner:

Greetings to everyone:

It's hard to believe that were at the end of the year, and what a year.  This troop has accomplished more that can be listed and definitely made a name for itself.  The different types of outings are far too numerous to list but appealed to all interests.
I am proud to announce that Troop 464 has 7 boys this year who have earned the rank of eagle.  This represents 100% of the boys who have reached the age of 18 and are leaving our troop as eagle scouts.  This is the best in the district and the council.  Job well done.
Many thanks to our scout leaders who have served in our troop.  Everyone of you can be credited for making this troop a great success.  Also a big thank you to all the adult leaders, you too have been significant in the success of the troop.
As our year ends and we start partying, let us all remember the good times and our fellowship in scouting.  Remember those who cannot be with us for they serve our country and protect us.
Have a great holiday and a great new year and may 2005 be another great year for Troop 464.

Yours in Scouting

Come Meet the Family!
Hi there, if you are reading this then you must be part of my family.  No, you’re not a blood relative, a son or daughter, mom or dad or even a distant cousin but you are family.  The family of Troop 464 of the Boy Scouts of America is a wing of your family and in my house; this Troop is a sense of pride and a step in the development of our son, Blake.

In these troubled times of war that is taking our youth from us, of terrorism that is causing an anxiety and a fear to continually be with us and of peer pressure that looms over our children tempting them with drugs and alcohol and involvement in activities that are dangerous and simply unacceptable, it’s nice, no, it’s reassuring that our sons are taking part in a program that pushes them to do the right thing.

Your family and my family are seeking the same thing.  We want what is best for our sons and for them to grow and mature to be men that we can be proud of and be an asset to mankind.  We have something in common; our sons.  We are all fighting the battle to be the best that we can be.  Someone out there said something like, “United we stand and divided we fall.”  I agree.  We must be united and stand together.  We must and we will succeed!

QUARTERMASTER RULES
1. To check out troop equipment, you must go through the proper channels.
2. Each patrol has a Quartermaster. He must contact the Troop Quartermaster and tell him what his patrol needs, using a written list of equipment.
3. The Troop Quartermaster will then fill out a check sheet of equipment for that patrol. The Patrol Leader or Patrol Quartermaster will then sign the check sheet and the equipment will be allocated as needed.
4. The person signing for the equipment will be responsible for the equipment, and see that it is returned Cleaned, undamaged, complete, and properly stored.
5. If the equipment is dirty, damaged, or incomplete such patrol will be responsible for cleaning, repair, or replacement of equipment.
6. All equipment is to be returned to the troop Quarter Master at his place of residence in a timely manner. An appointment will be set in advance.
7. Under no circumstances will any troop equipment be loaned out to Scout or adult without signing for it.

(family cont'd)
There is a small group of people in Troop 464 who have been together for five, six, perhaps seven years.  We all know each other very well and we are the leaders who come to the meetings and who oversee the boys as they plan the outings.  We have trust in each other and we can go to each other if our Scouts are having trouble advancing, learning or just getting along.  We really are a family.

You out there, the new members of the Troop.  You out there, the parents who drop your kid off and come back at the end of the meeting.  You out there, who don’t know any of the other Scouts, the parents, the activities…you are part of the family but you are distant cousins.  This is the chance to really be part of the family.  Come join us and meet us and learn about us.

My son is an Eagle Scout and I am very, very proud of him.  This year Troop 464 has more Eagle Scouts than we have ever had before.  The boys worked hard to achieve their goals and to become a pillar of Scouting and of the community but they didn’t do it alone!  Your son cannot do it alone.  He must have family around him to assure him along the way, to encourage him along the way, to love him along the way.

The family meets on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:00 PM. Come shake our hands and meet the family.
